Accreditation

The Tamborine Mountain Medical Practice has achieved full since 2000.  General practice accreditation is independent recognition that an eligible general practice meets the requirements of defined criteria or standards.  Accreditation provides assurance for owners, managers, staff, funding bodies and consumers about quality and performance of the General Practice.

The benefits of accreditation include:

• Independent recognition that a practice's quality of care is high, offering reassurance to  patients
• Improved patient safety and overall health outcomes
• Reduced risk in practice
• Improved practice efficiency
• Improved practice environment

Accreditation also provides:

• A valuable vehicle for establishing effective management systems
• A mechanism for developing staff skills and engaging them in quality improvement
• Practices with opportunities for improvement.

The GPA accreditation program is a voluntary national program that aims to provide a range of guarantees to patients by accreditation of the practice environment.

The standards train staff in areas such as ensuring vaccines are within their use-by date and are stored at correct temperatures, that the practice equipment is clean and sterile and the practice has emergency care.

To achieve this endorsement the practice team works to implement the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for General Practice which is the recognised standard nationally for assessment  of general practices.
